State social worker, psychotherapist
TUCSON, Ariz. — Barbara Andrews, a longtime resident of Princeton and recent resident of Academy Village in Tucson, died Oct. 8 at Tucson Medical Center.
Born in New York City, she dedicated much of her professional life to public service and helping others, first working as a social worker with the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, and ultimately in the Office of the Commissioner of the State of New Jersey, Department of Health and Senior Services, from where she retired in 2006.
She was also a licensed clinical social worker with psychotherapy practices in Princeton and New York City.
She graduated from Barnard College, obtained a graduate degree from Rutgers University and was awarded a postgraduate certificate from the New York Institute for Mental Health.
Her other interests included travel on the East Coast and France, the fine arts (classical music, especially Bach), reading, conversation and photography.
She is survived by her children, Meredith Bernados, Mark Happe and David Happe; sister, Adrienne Ferrell; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
