Lifelong devotion to music
   MONTGOMERY — Jane C. Woods died Saturday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 87.
   Born in Evanston, Ill., as a young woman she studied music and throughout her life was proud of her characterization of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Yum-Yum.
   During World War II, she traveled, often alone, for the American Red Cross, informing and assisting families of prisoners of war and those missing in action.
   After the war, she devoted herself to her husband and enjoyed tennis, fly-fishing, nature photography and needlework.
   Throughout her life, Mrs. Woods was an ardent supporter of independent education and in her final years showed particular interest in the musical activities at The Lawrenceville School and the scholarship program at her alma mater, The North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, Ill.
   Daughter of the late Elizabeth Tenney Cheney and Frederick G. Cheney and wife of the late Henry C. Woods Jr., who died in 2005 after 57 years of marriage, she is survived by three first cousins, a niece and a nephew.
   A memorial observance will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Edith Memorial Chapel of The Lawrenceville School, Lawrence Township, with the Rev. Sue Ann Morrow and the Rev. Philip H. Kasey officiating.
   Interment will be private.
   Arrangements are by Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, Hopewell.
