To the editor:
Thank you for the two excellent letters (Nov. 1, 2007) about Matthew’s Corn Stand. Outside of the issue at hand is this news. Columbus is no longer the sleepy, quiet village it once was. It has graduated and matured to be a big time Camden, Newark, Trenton “wannabe.” Yes, Columbus now endeavors to punish innocent citizens. If you see someone spit on the sidewalk, immediately call the police and have them arrested. Call Columbus and report them. A fine and jail time will teach them a lesson.
This is an open letter so I cannot tell Columbus where to place the zoning laws. Maybe they should go into the nitpick drawer. Zoning laws are for serious problems, not innocent farm stands. Tell me about zoning laws when you twist them to rob private property for eminent domain.
How about this? Send Matthew a Certificate of Exemption. Send Matthew a Certificate of Exception. Like all politicians in office, you have the power to do what you darn well please. Let the Cranky Complainer sue Columbus. Who cares? Columbus has lawyers. Use my tax money.
Please send the Cranky Complainer to Complainers Anonymous so they can get over it.. Or how about a quick trip to a lumber yard to remove the chip on their shoulder. I’ll chauffeur them free of charge.
And finally, I expect no more from Columbus than sitting on their hands. So how about some petitions supporting Matthew. One in the General Store, another at the post office, the corner bar, the corner restaurant, the Columbus market. Any takers?
Matthew’s stand was doing no harm. The only harm was government seizing personal liberty. If you didn’t notice, in the city/state/county/country there are too many laws, too much government run by narrow-minded, stupid people.
