EWING — Samuel Martin Slowinski Sr., 92, died Monday.
Born in Trenton, he graduated from Trenton Central High School and Trenton Technical Institute, and then started work at DeLaval Turbine in Trenton. During World War II, Mr. Slowinski served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Raven, AM-55 and soon after the war ended, he continued his employment with DeLaval.
He retired after 47 years of service. He was very active in the Incarnation Church Parish Community, serving in the Holy Name Society and the Seniors Choir. He enjoyed soccer and baseball and was a coach in the Ewing National Little League. An accomplished musician, Mr. Slowinski played the accordion with many different Trenton area bands.
Mr. Slowinski was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Victoria Nelec Slowinski, brothers John, Stanley, Joseph and Anthony and sisters Agnes Ibbs, Irene Opdycke, Marion Sekeras and Estelle Perlingiero. Mr. Slowinski leaves behind Anna Marie Perna, his wife of 61 years; daughters Judith (Stephen) Carter of Greensboro, N.C. and JoAnn (Paul) Knapp of Bordentown; and sons Samuel M. Jr. of Manassas, Va. and Thomas of Trenton.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer Bowers, Lisa Winstead, Stacy Carter, Michael Carter, Matthew Carter, Douglass Knapp, Andrew Knapp, John Slowinski, James Slowinski, Stephanie Slowinski and Regina Slowinski and his great-grandchildren, Madelyne and Garret Bowers and Cecilia Slowinski. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends today, Thursday, at 8 a.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Incarnation/St. James Parish, Ewing. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
