Mary C. Gillette of Columbus
To the editor:
As a 10-year resident of the Homestead Community in Columbus, I can’t tell you how distressed I was to read about the closing of Matthew Bassett’s Farm Stand. Both the township and “complainers” should be ashamed of themselves. Here is a young man doing the “right thing” at a time when we are all so worried about our young adults.
What kind of a message does this send? Throw away all of our old values because it may take a little longer to get down Main Street? As a person who grew up in New York City, this farm stand is part of the reason I have loved my move to this area. Old-fashioned values and old-fashioned entrepreneurship. It is a disgrace that a fine young man should be deprived of this.
Here is the future of Mansfield who has learned how to give from his heart and give back to the community facing a township throwing its weight around. My disappointment in this unconscionable decision knows no bounds.
