Dormitory patrols among measures taken

Princeton University is taking strides to discourage violations of the university’s alcohol consumption policy on campus.
Thursday and Saturday patrols inside dormitory hallways by public safety officers have recently begun and the university is informing those interested in serving as residential college advisors next year that they will be expected to take more active roles when they observe violations of the University’s existing alcohol policy.
According to the university’s spokeswoman Cass Cliatt, the public safety officers are being put in a better position to observe violations more easily than they would be patrolling the exterior of dormitories, like they have been doing.
Applications for next school year’s RCAs are scheduled to go online Friday, Nov. 9, and the college staffs at each of the residential colleges held meetings with their RCAs to inform them of an update in a section of the 2008-09 “Residential College Adviser Manual” that will include the new guidelines, Ms. Cliatt said.
”RCAs will be expected to respond to alcohol situations themselves when they observe them and talk to students involved,” she added. “We’re simply saying that they no longer can do nothing when they observe an alcohol violation.”
