Baroni overwhelms his Democratic opponent in 14th District race for Senate

Republican Bill Baroni overwhelmingly defeated Democrat Seema Singh for the vacant state Senate seat in the 14th Legislative District on Tuesday. But Democrats Linda Greenstein and Wayne DeAngelo took the Assembly seats in the district, which includes West Windsor and Plainsboro.
Mr. Baroni, a two-term Assemblyman from Hamilton, received 33,136 votes to Ms. Singh’s 20,000. The four-year seat was previously held by Republican Peter Inverso, who announced his retirement in March after 16 years in office.
In the race for two Assembly seats, Ms. Greenstein, the Democratic incumbent, and Mr. DeAngelo, the Democratic newcomer, were the winners. Ms. Greenstein, of Plainsboro, won her fifth two-year term, receiving 28,172 votes.
Mr. DeAngelo, of Hamilton, received 25,037 votes and will take over the Assembly seat previously held by Mr. Baroni.
Republicans Tom Goodwin, of Hamilton, and Adam Bushman, of Jamesburg, received 24,245 and 23,663 votes respectively.
Also on the ballot were Libertarian candidates Ray Cragle and Jason Scheurer, both of West Windsor. Mr. Scheurer earned 1,770 votes and Mr. Cragle 1,303.
In the 15th Legislative District, which includes Princeton, the state Senate and Assembly seats all went to incumbent Democrats by wide margins.
In the state Senate race, incumbent Democrat Shirley Turner, of Trenton, defeated Republican newcomer Bob Martin, of Hopewell Township, 20,050 votes to 11,905.
Taking the two available Assembly seats were incumbent Democrats Bonnie Watson Coleman, of Ewing Township, and Reed Gusciora, of Princeton Borough, who received 19,570 and 19,052 votes, respectively.
Although he dropped out of the race due to health problems a month before the election, Republican Norbert Donelly, of Lawrence, came in third with 10,472 votes, following by Republican Sylvester “Bobby” Bryant, of Trenton, with 10,314 and Green Party candidate Nicholas Mellis, of Lawrence, with 1,683.
In the 16th Legislative District, which includes Montgomery and Rocky Hills, Republican Assemblyman Christopher “Kip” Bateman, of Neshanic Station, moved up to the Senate with an easy victory over Democrat Wayne G. Fox, of Montgomery.
The Assembly races went to Republican incumbent Peter Biondi, of Hillsborough, with 25,732 votes and Republican Denise Coyle, of Bedminster, with 25,892 votes. They defeated Democrats Michael Fedun, of Montgomery, and William Kole, of Hillsborough. Fedun received 18,792 votes and Kole received 17,951.
