The Allentown Art Guild will hold its next monthly meeting 7-9 p.m. Nov. 16 at the barn/studio of Jeff Martin Photography, 78 N. Main St., Allentown. The meeting will feature a presentation by Janine Kimmel, artist and author of the awardwinning children’s book “The Magic Gown.”
Kimmel pursues funding in order to provide installations of her art at children’s hospitals, treatment centers and public spaces. The most recently donated installation was in June 2005 at the Anna House, a nonprofit day care center in Belmont Park, Elmont, N.Y. For the first “Magic Gown Project” art installation in 2000, Kimmel donated four giclée prints to The Center in Asbury Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.
A registered nurse with a bachelor of science degree in human development and a master’s degree in transpersonal studies from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, Calif., Kimmel’s book of a young girl’s thrilling adventure in a “Wizard of Oz world” has been favorably reviewed by Today’s Parent, Fore- Word Magazine and Midwest Book Review and is available through local books stores and Amazon.com.
Limited seating for Kimmel’s talk is available to nonmembers of the guild for $10. To make reservations, call Elizabeth Martin at (609) 259-0455. For more information about the guild and its schedule of events, visit www.AllentownArtGuild.org.
