Herb Marinari of Plumsted
To the editor:
Recently, I had the honor of sitting in on a regular meeting of the Plumsted Township Council of the Arts. Seated around the table were some of our community’s best and brightest examples of what makes New Egypt so great. But, as one member said near the beginning of the meeting “this seems like a wake.”
Even though as the meeting progressed the energy and passion of these members grew, there still was that feeling of closure. Upcoming events and review of past accomplishments were discussed, but that flame and energy so much needed to continue on for another year with over worked “core members,” limited funding, and the failure of our community to know the extent of an asset we have in our Arts Council was growing dimmer. I could see in each one of those members’ eyes how much it hurt them to consider disbanding the Plumsted Township Council of the Arts. Yes, I said disband the Arts Council. That is what is being considered.
I, for one, did not know the council was in this state. I’ve enjoyed its wonderful events, ones that are known as a mainstay of our community. Enjoying an early summer evening listening to great music, topped off with fireworks, discovering our community unknown talents at the talent show, cooling off with our neighbors at the ice cream social and so much more. We can’t lose all of that and future events yet to be developed by those great dedicated members of the council. I for one won’t let it go away. I ask that you join me, a not so talented member of the community, to help hold on to this treasure.
How can you help? There is always the need for financial support, but more important at this time is the need for you to come out and become a member. You don’t need to be a Michelangelo, a Pavarotti (God rest his soul), or a Baryshnikov. They just need you.
I fully understand that your life is probably already filled with many daily requirements, but those wonderful, community minded people need your help. Come join me as a new member and help the council. By doing so you will only make New Egypt what we all want it to be – the best. You can find a member application on the Plumsted Council of the Arts web site at http://www.plumstedartscouncil.org
