Audubon Society to hold bird walk, meeting

Monmouth County Audubon Society will host a bird walk Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. beginning at the parking lot at the visitor center at Sandy Hook.

The free walk will be led by several Society members, and attendees may see birds such as hawks, snow buntings, northern harriers and warblers. The trip is open to both members and nonmembers. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars and field guides.

The Society will hold a meeting Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Red Bank. The public is welcome to attend the free meeting. Guest speaker will be Michelle Ruggiero, assistant wildlife biologist with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. She will present “Know the Bear Facts,” a program on New Jersey’s bears. The program will cover the natural history of bears in the state, results of past and current bear research, and practical information on coexisting with bears. Refreshments will be served.
