SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A 32- year-old father of two was killed Saturday morning when his car swerved out of control on the right shoulder of Route 1 and hit a utility pole, according to a South Brunswick Police Department press release.
Michael J. Mausen of South Brunswick was driving his 2006 Nissan 350 just south of Henderson Road when the accident occurred. It was reported at 2:55 a.m., and Mausen was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Indications are that Mr. Mausen may have fallen asleep while driving,” said Officer Mike Rogers of the South Brunswick Traffic Bureau in the release. An autopsy revealed that Mausen died from blunt force trauma. It is believed Mausen was not wearing a seatbelt.
This is the first fatal accident in South Brunswick this year, according to police.
Rogers is looking for witnesses to the accident and can be reached at (732) 329-4646 if anyone has any information.
