Politics as usual

Patrice Faroane, Jamesburg
Once again, it’s politics and not the person as usual. Adam Bushman lost last night to Wayne DeAngelo for the 14th District Assembly seat, which represents Jamesburg, Monroe, South Brunswick, Cranbury, Plainsboro, West Windsor and Hamilton. Mr. Bushman lost in Monroe, where he grew up and his mother resides. Mr. Bushman went through the Monroe school system, put himself through college and graduate school, is a war veteran, campaigned tirelessly while working full time, has a supportive wife and two children. He was endorsed by the NJEA, The Cranbury Press and several other newspapers and still lost.
Mr. Bushman went door to door in Monroe for months, talking to people about the issues, understanding the issues, realizing New Jersey is in trouble for many reasons, one specifically, funding school budgets through property tax, and that it doesn’t work.
We have a governor who wants to lease out our Turnpike, giving control to another entity so we can pay off debt. We live in New Jersey where we have to pay twice to use our own beaches — we pay through our taxes and we pay a daily charge when visiting them. No other state has to pay for their beaches. We pay for tolls and bridges, parkways and turnpikes. We have the lottery and yet we are still in debt. We have paid officials being arrested and paid officials killing themselves. Wake up people.
Nothing against Wayne DeAngelo, but who is he and who in Monroe knows him? No one, but he is on the Democratic ticket and if you live in Jamesburg or Monroe and you are on the Democratic ticket, you are a guaranteed win. So, as I said, politics as usual, and not the person, which is a shame and a disgrace.
We deserve what we get and we don’t deserve the intellect, honesty, articulation and dedication of Adam Bushman. Good luck, New Jersey, I hope we survive.
