Lawrence should have non-partisan elections

Jeffrey R. Dzik, Federal City Road
I am in agreement with some past letters regarding non-partisan township elections. West Windsor has had great success with them for years.
While there are national, statewide and countywide issues that require a more partisan election, I don’t believe it is necessary on the local level. It pits one candidate against another based solely on party affiliation. I believe our local issues do not need to be divided along these lines.
Although I am not an Independent, I love this town and the many people I have befriended or made acquaintance of over the past 14-plus years I have lived here. We may have political differences but all of us rejoice in the wonderful place Lawrence Township is to live, work and raise our children. In fact, it is the diversity of all sorts that makes this town a wonderful collage of the American landscape. My wife and I have lived all over the state and we think this is the best area we have had the experience of living and working in together.
I congratulate all of those who were elected to office here and have great respect for all of the candidates who ran solely on issues that are important to all of our town residents. The very close elections proved that all of the candidates running were a good choice. I think the partisan letters and articles that went back and forth during the campaign were unnecessary negativity that turned off many would-be voters.
