Choirs to highlight holiday tree lighting

If all of the invited guests show up, the annual tree-lighting ceremony — scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night at the municipal parking lot on South Main Street — will be a big event.
”We invited all the fire companies, the rescue squad and all the churches have been asked to come,” said Ed Komoroski of the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council, co-sponsors of the event with the borough.
In recent years, the event has grown and Mr. Komoroski said he hopes more groups will join. Choir groups from Faith in Action and Sacred Heart churches will sing carols.
”We are looking to coordinate some type of caroling, so if there are any groups that would like to contact me, we could schedule them,” he said.
The Knights of Columbus has been spearheading the event for the last three years, placing the manger and cartoon figure cutouts made by Boesel Avenue resident Paul Matus. Mr. Matus’ figures were popular holiday decorations, which he displayed in his Lost Valley yard until his death in 1997. The figures were then given to the borough.
Mr. Komoroski said visitors will be able to enjoy hot chocolate, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.
”We are trying to kick off the Christmas season and hopefully people from within the town and the surrounding area will stop by and help spread some cheer,” he added.
