School buses to get new security cameras

HIGHTSTOWN — All of the East Windsor Regional School District’s buses are expected to have digital security cameras installed in them soon.
The school board unanimously approved a $66,800 contract bid from the Edison-based Accetron Corp. at Monday’s board meeting for the digital security surveillance equipment.
”We’re hoping to have (the new cameras) installed by the middle of January,” district Transportation Director Pat Bye said Thursday.
The cameras will be replacing an older VHS security system the district has been using, Ms. Bye said.
At Monday’s board meeting, Superintendent Ron Bolandi said the new cameras will help to enhance the safety and security of students who ride the buses, and protect the district against claims that could be made against it.
”It’s no longer the driver’s word against the kids,” he said in an apparent reference to safety or disciplinary issues.
”It will calm things down, and it’s great security for us,” he added.
