A lone man entered the Manville PNC Bank branch on South Main Street at 11:47, and robbed the bank of an undisclosed amount of money.
The robber presented a bank teller with a plastic bag and a note stating that he had a gun and was robbing the bank, Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said.
The teller activated the bank’s silent holdup alarm, and filled the bag with money.
The robber fled to a burgundy-colored vehicle and headed south on Main Street.
Detectives from the Manville Police Department, the prosecutor’s office Major Crimes Squad and Crime Scene Investigation and the FBI conducted an area search, and interviewed several witnesses.
The thief is believed to be a 25- to 30-year-old white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with a thin build and a thin nose.
He is reported to have worn a hooded green parka jacket, a black wool cap, gloves, and blue jeans.
The prosecutor’s office does not plan to release a sketch of the suspect, citing lack of distinguishing facial details.
Mr. Forrest reported that no other bank robberies occurred in Somerset County recently, but could not comment on nearby counties.
”I could not speak for other counties, but we routinely coordinate with other counties and other states,” said Mr. Forrest.
