Hopewell Township police are continuing their investigation of a four-car accident that occurred on Route 29 just south of Pleasant Valley Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Only minor injuries resulted from the mishap.
Chief George Meyer said Monday that the accident occurred when a 1995 BMW, driven by Samantha Peitler, 35, of Trenton, crossed the center line for an unknown reason while driving south on Route 29.
Ms. Peitler’s vehicle sideswiped a northbound 2001 Mercury driven by Charles Hunter, 65, of Titusville.
Ms. Peitler’s vehicle then continued traveling in the northbound lane, striking another vehicle nearly head-on. That vehicle was a 2007 Toyota pickup truck driven by Charles Bache, 25, of Ottsville, Pa.
Ms. Peitler’s vehicle then began to spin out of control and was struck on its passenger side by a 1999 Saab driven by Philip Whitcomb, 57, of Lambertville.
Ms. Peitler was trapped in her vehicle and extricated by the Union and West Amwell fire departments. She was taken to Capital Health System, Fuld Campus, for treatment of minor injuries, as was Mr. Whitcomb.
Mr. Hunter was uninjured. Mr. Bach sustained minor injuries, but refused medical attention.
Route 29 was closed for about an hour and a half as a result of the accident.
