George F. Smith III, 32, of Bordentown Township, was sentenced to three years in prison on Nov. 29 by a Burlington County state Superior Court judge for killing his friend in an automobile accident in North Hanover in 2006, according to a court spokesperson.
He pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and must serve at least 85 percent of his term. The prison in which he will serve his time had not yet been determined, said a court spokesperson Wednesday.
Bordentown Township resident Peter Simpson, 50, died May 20, 2006, when he was a passenger in the single-vehicle crash on Chesterfield-Arneystown Road.
Mr. Smith also was charged with driving while intoxicated.
State police said the vehicle, which was headed south, spun out of control when Mr. Smith took a curve too quickly. The vehicle left the roadway and entered an open field, where it rolled over multiple times at about 12:20 a.m.
Mr. Simpson, who was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled, was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:15 a.m.
