BRICK TOWNSHIP – A township man who was walking on Lanes Mill Road was thrown 40 feet after he was struck by a car on Nov. 30.

Michael L. Pugliese, 26, suffered head and abdominal trauma after the 6:27 a.m. accident that occurred about 100 feet south of Alexander Avenue, police said.

Police said Pugliese appeared to be walking when he was struck by a car driven by Andrius Narkunas, 22, Lakewood, near the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

Narkunas came to a controlled stop in the shoulder about 200 feet from the point of impact. He dialed 911 to report the crash, police said.

Pugliese was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by the Brick Township Police Department’s Emergency Medical Services Unit. MONOC paramedics also responded to the scene, police said.

Traffic on Lanes Mill Road was diverted in both lanes for roughly 90 minutes after the accident, police said.

Police think an unknown brown or maroon minivan that was traveling behind Narkunas at the time of the crash may have witnessed the accident.

The accident is under investigation by the Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Patrolman Jay Lampiasi at 732- 262-1141.
