Dec. 10 is deadline for ‘Project Little Soldier’

Gifts are being collected for children of U.S. soldiers deployed to Iraq

Mercer County is reminding residents, business, and local organizations that donated gifts for the “Project Little Soldier” holiday toy drive will be collected through Dec. 10.
Through Project Little Soldier, gifts will be collected for the children of U.S. soldiers from our area deployed to Iraq and unable to buy holiday presents for their families. The children receive gifts from the organization in the name of their parent. The toy drive is being coordinated by Mercer County and American Recreational Military Services (ARMS), a nonprofit that collects donated items and ships them to U.S. soldiers around the world throughout the year.
Those wishing to participate can donate gifts appropriate for children aged infant to teen. Gifts recommended by ARMS include: baby toys and clothes, children’s hats and gloves, picture books, stuffed animals, pajamas, dolls, Lego’s, toy cars, art supplies, board games, CDs/DVDs, backpacks, books, sports supplies, and gift cards to stores like Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy. There is no minimum or maximum to spend on a gift.
Donations can be dropped off at the McDade Administration Building at 640 S. Broad St., Trenton; Mercer County Connection at Route 33 and Paxson Avenue in Hamilton; or the Lawrence branch of the Mercer County Library System at 2751 Brunswick Pike.
