Susan B. Loew of Princeton
I am very proud of my town, which has been home to my family since 1965.
I am proud that we value the environment; not only our own backyards, but the greater area in which much open space has been dedicated. We value the protection of endangered and threatened species such as the box turtle, Cooper’s hawk, barred owl and nationally sensationalized domestic pets. We seem to have a very creditable record in that regard.
I wish I could also be proud of my town’s value of its older citizens. We have exported these former contributors to Montgomery, Cranbury and Monroe townships, to name only a few. Those places long ago discovered the economic viability of age-restricted communities. But, it would be only fitting if seniors could enjoy the contemplation of the wonderful sites they have helped to create here in town, in the years when they are retired and can fully appreciate the wonders of nature.
Hopefully, the term “environmentalists” (which we certainly all are, in greater or lesser degree) can include senior citizens (whether that means person 55 or 62 years of age, and aging) under it supportive cloak.
Princeton currently has an opportunity to express pride in its value of seniors by supporting a project that makes reality of preservation. Mr. Hillier’s proposed project on Bunn Drive should not be viewed as a threat, but rather as protection of a long neglected species.
Don’t send more of our taxpayers to outlying communities.
