Rocky Hill extends police contract with South Bound Brook

ROCKY HILL — The Borough Council adopted a resolution authorizing a two-month extension of its police services contract with South Bound Brook at its Monday meeting.
The contract extension would provide the borough with 50 hours of police service per month by South Bound Brook officers through Feb. 29.
Mayor Ed Zimmerman said the resolution was added to the Monday meeting agenda after he learned that the South Bound Brook Borough Council had passed a similar resolution submitted by the South Bound Brook police chief.
Mr. Zimmerman added that for a while it appeared South Bound Brook would stop providing services to Rocky Hill.
He said South Bound Brook’s mayor had previously told him that he wanted to stop providing service from his police department at the end of the year.
”It was a victory for us to renew this year,” Mr. Zimmerman said. He said Bound Brook voters had elected a new mayor for 2008 who was in favor of continuing to provide police service to Rocky Hill.
South Bound Brook police mainly handle traffic enforcement for the borough. The State Police, which has a substation in Borough Hall, also provides police coverage to the borough.
