Police said they received a call from a resident who had heard a male voice calling for help, followed by a gunshot in the wooded area behind the residence.
According to police, an extensive search was conducted by New Jersey State Police and Hillsborough Police, but no evidence was found in the area through a foot/field search, as well as an aerial search.
Police searched the area for about six hours Wednesday, then returned for an additional three-hours searching Thursday.
Mr. Tomaszfski told police he had fired his gun to gain the attention of fellow hunters after getting stuck in the tree.
According to police, a relative rescued him before emergency personnel arrived on the scene, and he did not sustain any injuries.
