Louellen Street (Route 518) in Hopewell Borough has reopened.
Lt. Lance Maloney of the Hopewell Township Police Department said: “CSX personnel report that the Louellen Street railroad crossing work is complete and the road is open. The roadway just opened at 4:50 p.m. today (Dec. 12).
The street was closed beginning Dec. 9 for repairs to the railroad crossing. It was scheduled for reopening on Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. Work was finished ahead of schedule.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on Louellen Street, NJDOT was to have replaced the existing tracks, repaved the asphalt approaches and added traffic striping. The cost of the work is $120,000.
This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade crossing safety program, which repairs and upgrades 30 crossings each year.
