Matawan lighting, Santa’s arrival a big success

Ifirst want to thank everyone who helped to make the tree lighting and Santa arriving in town a success. With support from local vendors such as Abbate Bakery, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, we were able to have a hot drink and a delicious snack.

With the work of the Matawan First Aid Squad and fire departments, we had the community center decorated and festive for a holiday celebration. With the support of the police department, we had traffic control to ensure the safety of all involved. We had representatives from both political parties dedicate their time and effort to support this community event. At a time when we are having another election to discover who will actually be our mayor, it was refreshing to see that all could come together despite whatever political party we are affiliated with. I also think that this should serve as a very important reminder – we are human beings first and foremost.

We are all working hard and doing what we think is best for Matawan. We all need to be aware of the fact that we are always in role-modeling behavior for the children of this community and that an attempt to bad mouth others usually only ends up hurting people and usually the people who are closest to us. This is the season for peace and this is the thought that should be foremost on our minds, but more importantly in our hearts, each and every day, as we work to have a prosperous community.
