Retired from IBM
PLAINSBORO — Robert N. Hale Sr. died Saturday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 87.
Born in Rhode Island, he was a Princeton-area since 1967.
He retired from IBM after a full career there.
Mr. Hale was an Army Air Corps B-17 pilot during World War II. He flew 35 missions over Europe and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After the war, he studied electrical engineering at Brown University.
Following retirement from IBM he traveled widely with his wife in the U.S., Mexico and Central America and Europe.
Mr. Hale was an active member of the Nassau Presbyterian Church.
Son of the late Robert B. and Mace Lewis Hale, and husband of the late Ruth H. Hale, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Susan Hale of Plainsboro and John and Chiaki Hale of Tokyo; daughter and son-in-law Drs. Dorrit and Todd Sterner of Abington, Pa.; sister Phyllis Waterman of Rhode Island; and grandsons Ethan and Browning Sterner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 390th Memorial Museum, 6000 East Valencia Road, Tucson, AZ 85706.
