The Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education is expected to replace Hopewell Township school board member Carl Swanson on Monday.
Interested candidates for Dr. Swanson’s seat had until noon today (Dec. 13) to submit a letter of application to Robert Colavita, board secretary, at the Administration Building, 425 S. Main St., Pennington.
Those who expressed interest by the deadline and will be interviewed Monday, are: Desiree Fogler, Pennington-Titusville Road; Ken Hansen, Lake Baldwin Drive; Bill Hills, Elden Way; Stephen Keen, Pennington-Hopewell Road; Judy Lindenberger, Hopkinson Court; Brian McHugh, Masters Way, and Paul Ronollo, Wilfred Avenue.
Board President Linda Mitchell said the board has scheduled individual interviews for each of the seven applicants, beginning at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the Administration Building, 425 S. Main St., Pennington . Plans are to pick the replacement board member that night.
The board will conduct its regular business meeting immediately following the interviews.
The board has until Feb. 1 to appoint a successor for Dr. Swanson, who resigned suddenly on Nov. 28. President Mitchell has announced her interest in filling the seat expeditiously so the new member can participate in the budget development process, scheduled to begin in January.
The appointee will serve until the next school board election, when voters will decide who is seated for the next term, which runs three years. The election is April 15.
Dr. Swanson, who along with Ed Gainsborg was the longest-serving board member at the time of his resignation, occupied one of seven seats representing Hopewell Township on the nine-member board. He was five months away from completing his third term when health concerns forced him to resign.
