Paul J. Reardon

 Nuclear physicist
    LAWRENCE — Paul J. Reardon died Dec. 12. He was 76.
   He was a nuclear physicist and became an international authority in the design and construction of subatomic particle accelerators and superconducting magnet systems.
   Born in Haverhill, Mass., he graduated cum laude from Boston College and received a master’s degree from Rutgers University.
   He served as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army in Japan and Korea where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
   He held two patents in the production of superconducting wire and cable. His two most cherished accomplishments were his contributions in the development of the magnet technology universally used in MRI’s today, and the development and construction of proton therapy clinical accelerators for cancer treatment.
   Husband of the late Pauline, he survived by daughters and sons-in-law Christine and David Jones, Barbara and Larry Tabor, and Jocelyn and Harry Zoog; sons and daughters-in-law Paul and Patricia Reardon, Thomas and Beth Reardon, Kevin and Susan Reardon, and Sean and Karen Reardon; grandchildren Janine, Lisa, Cheryl, Regina, Brendan, Alicia, Phillip, Monica, Eric, Deanna, Austin, Laura, Kelly, Thomas, Corinne, Claire, Elise, Andrew, Renee, Jack and Patrick; and great-grandchildren Sophia and Henry.
   A burial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 115 E. Delaware Ave., Pennington.
   Entombment will be in the Ewing Cemetery Mausoleum.
   Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington.
