Mr. Vavallo, 77, of Monmouth Beach, died Dec. 6, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had resided there and in Old Bridge before relocating to Monmouth Beach five years ago. Mr. Vavallo was a checker for the International Longshoremen’s Association in New York and New Jersey for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was predeceased by his wife, Jewel, in 2001; a son, Vito, in 1993; and a sister, Phyllis, in 2001. Surviving are two daughters, Marie Brill of Marlboro and Janice Vavallo of Monmouth Beach; a sister, Rose Claro of Norwalk, Conn.; and two grandchildren. Entombment was at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum. The Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, was in charge of arrangements.
