Second place at last Thursday’s Maple Bowl Girls Holiday Bowling Tournament was hardly anything to sneeze at. However, the Bordentown Regional High girls’ varsity bowling team has reached a point where it is so good that anything less than first no longer will cut it.
Consequently, when Cherokee edged out Bordentown, 2,454 to 2,444, the Scotties left the tourney unsatisfied and thinking they had missed out on a golden opportunity.
”Cherokee won by 10 pins. I was disappointed in their (the Bordentown girls) showing, especially since they left 500 points on the board. They had 50 missed spares in three games,” said Bordentown varsity bowling head coach Ron Jones, who has grown to expect great things from his girls’ squad.
Bordentown’s Kim Limani, nevertheless, had the high game for the tournament with a 276. Her 664 series was the second best of the tourney behind Stacy Parsons.
Only a day before, the Bordentown boys had rolled a 2,569 team score to place 17th overall in the Maple Bowl Boys Holiday Bowling Tournament. While they had no individual top 10 finishers, it was actually a pretty good score for the Scotties.
”The boys’ didn’t bowl badly,” added Jones.
This past Monday, the Bordentown girls defeated Westampton Tech, 4-0, at Laurel Lanes.
With Limani out sick, sophomore Chelsea Kohfeldt picked up the slack and rolled a 568 series (235,181,152) to pace the Scotties.
”She’s been a big help,” said Jones of Kohfeldt.
Brittany Havens rolled a 486 series with a high game of 170. Cathy Jones came through with a 477 series with a best game of 172.
”Freshman Alaura Jones had a high game of 169 in the only game she bowled,” added Jones, whose girls had a pin count of 2,289 even without their big star.
On the boys’ side, Bordentown tied Westampton 2-2.
The Scotties won the first game 809 to 762 and held on to capture the total pin count 2,321 to 2,304.
With a 200, Chris Schaeffer had the high game for Bordentown. Ryan McDonald recorded a 479 series with a high game of 193.
”They were not making their spares,” said Jones, whose boys’ team continues to work on solving that particular problem.
The Bordentown girls’ varsity bowling team is 6-0. The boys’ team is 1-4-1.
Both Bordentown bowling squads are scheduled to host Cinnaminson today (Thursday) at Papp’s.
Lindsey Webster rolled a 514 series to lead the Northern Burlington County Regional High girls’ varsity bowling team to a 2-2 tie with Ewing on Tuesday.
”We won the second game and total pins,” added Ed Del Russo, NBC’s varsity bowling head coach.
On the boys’ side, Ewing defeated NBC 3-1 despite a few solid performances by the Greyhounds.
”Our top bowler was Frank Capra. He bowled a 503 series,” said Del Russo, who also got solid efforts out of Nick Doremus (a 496 series) and John Webster (477).
The Greyhound girls proved they were for real this season with a 3-1 win over New Egypt on Monday.
”We beat New Egypt by four pins. It was tight,” said Del Russo, whose boys’ bowling team also defeated New Egypt 3-1 this past Monday.
Last Friday, the Northern Burlington boys’ bowling team beat Trenton Catholic Academy by forfeit because TCA had just on two bowlers.
On the girls’ side the Greyhounds beat TCA, which played with just four girls, 4-0.
”When the other team has just four you get a blind,” added Del Russo, whose girls won the match quite easily.
Last Thursday the NBC girls competed in the Maple Bowl Girls’ Holiday Tournament where they placed eighth overall with a total pin count of 2,101. While no Greyhounds finished on the individual leader board, Webster was Northern’s top bowler. The NBC boys’ team, which seems to come with its best every time out, had a rare off day in last Wednesday’s Maple Bowl Boys’ Holiday Tournament. NBC placed 20th in the tournament.
Nevertheless, Northern’s boys’ varsity bowling team is 5-2-1 on the season.
”Every game is tough but the boys are stepping up to the plate,” added Del Russo.
Meanwhile the NBC girls team has a fine 5-1-2 record.
Both NBC teams were scheduled to have taken on Pemberton yesterday (Wednesday). Then Northern Burlington will be off until January 3.
