Church seeks to expand River Road cemetery

Holy Ghost Carpatho Church in Manville is seeking approvals to extend its cemetery on Millstone River Road.
According to Sheila Smart, a representative of the church, they recently purchased a property and house adjacent to the current cemetery, for about $175,000. For now, she said, they will expand into the backyard of the property, but, eventually, they will tear down the house to add even more space.
Ms. Smart said the project will involve three phases, the first of which will be to expand and widen the driveway leading into the cemetery itself. She said this project will cost about $15,000 and is expected to be completed in fall 2008.
The remaining pieces of the project will include putting in roads to allow visitors to drive around the cemetery, and demolishing the house on the new property, but she said she is unsure when these pieces of the project will be done and what they will cost.
”For now, we have to get through all the township requirements and paperwork,” she said.
