After snow and ice postponed the Alexander Batcho Intermediate School and Manville High School winter concert Dec. 13, some of the students had one concern.
”My only concern was if it was going to be canceled and we’d have an ‘after-Christmas Christmas concert,’” said Manville High School student conductor Alex Holland. “It seems pretty silly to sing Christmas songs after Christmas.”
Luckily, the students didn’t have to wait long to take the stage, and treated listeners to a selection of holiday favorites at an hour-long show Monday.
Each student group performed two to four songs, including “Angels We Have Heard On High,” performed by the Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Band; “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” performed by the Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Chorus; “The Hanukkah Song,” performed by the high school band; and “Gloria Festiva,” performed by the high school chorus.
The high school band also performed selections from its marching show, “Mangione Magic.”
The concert concluded with a holiday sing-along, with all groups performing.
Though the students had some of the music since August, they began rehearsing other pieces in October.
”Once you’ve been doing it for so long, it gets easy,” said freshman Nick Kita. “We’ve been practicing so long it’s as easy as A-B-C.”
