EAST WINDSOR Thor Woronczuk, 68, died Monday at home.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, he immigrated from the Ukraine to the United States and settled in Newark and was a resident in East Windsor for the last several years.
He graduated from the Arts High School in Newark. He majored in history at Newark State College and graduated in 1962. He went on to work for the Department of Welfare in New York City.
He also taught the Russian language in the Franklin Township school system. He received his master’s degree in Russian history from the New York University.
To further his educational pursuits, he attended Rutgers University and received his second master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. He then worked for the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the Department of Treasury in the Budget Bureau Division, and helped write and edit the state budget for many years.
Son of the late Wadym Woronczuk and Nadija Pluschtsch; he is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hathazi-Woronczuk; daughter and son-in-law Julia and David Schneider; son Anton Woronczuk; stepchildren Susan Dodi Hathazi-Mahnovski and her husband, Sergej, and Michael McGee Hathazi; sisters Alexandra and her husband, Paul, Zubritzky and Natalie Samula; and his niece and nephew, Nina Suchenko and Zack Samula.
A funeral service will begin 8 a.m. Saturday at the A.S. Cole Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Cranbury. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Vladimir Memorial Church, 134 Perrineville Road, Jackson.
Interment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.
