West Windsor-based Covance Inc. announced that Wendel Barr has been named chief operating officer, effective January 1. Mr. Barr, who is currently president of Early Development North America, will assume operating responsibility for Covance’s business units worldwide and will report to Joe Herring, Covance’s chairman and chief executive officer.
In addition, Mike Lehmann, currently general manager of the preclinical laboratory facility in Madison, Wis., was named president of Labs North America and will serve on Covance’s global leadership council.
Mr. Barr joined Covance in 2000 as vice president and general manager of Labs North America. In 2003, he was promoted to president of Early Development North America responsible for the company’s North American preclinical and global Phase I operations. Prior to joining Covance, Mr. Barr was global vice president and general manager of Marconi Medical Systems. He holds an MBA from the National University in San Diego, Calif., and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Ariz.
Gerald G. Case, of Dayton, has been recognized as a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He practices orthopedic surgery at the University Medical Center at Princeton and has been a physician assistant for 28 years. He is employed by Princeton Orthopedic Associates and has worked with Dr. David J. Lamb for the past 10 years.
Mr. Case earned the recognition due to his contributions to patient care and the profession during his years as a physician assistant. He also demonstrated significant dedication and involvement in the community of South Brunswick Township.
Mr. Case retired as a Major from the United States Army Reserve in 2003 following a 31 year career during which he served as a medical corpsman, surgical technician, patient administrator, and health care administrator. His decorations include two awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, and four awards of the Army Commendation Medal.
Since his retirement, he has resumed an active role as a Boy Scout leader in South Brunswick, and he serves on the Executive Board of the Central New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also served as a volunteer member of the Middlesex County Medical Reserve Corps from 2004 to 2006.
Princeton Psychiatric Centers announced that Joyce A. Venis has joined its practice. Ms. Venis is a psychiatric registered nurse licensed in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. With over 35 years of experience, she has work and clinical expertise with perinatal mood disorders, PMS, perimenopause and menopause.
