Edison Board of Education acted recklessly

The Edison Board of Education has been reckless, derelict in their duties, and disrespectful to the residents they are entrusted to serve. The hasty and mysterious suspension of the superintendent, Carol Toth, while she continues to collect her full salary costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars is unconscionable. Moreover, their replacement of Ms. Toth without initiating a search to find the most qualified candidate is a disservice to students and faculty.

With reckless urgency they are trying to move on a $50-plus million bond referendum, without due process and adequate public feedback. This proposal has too many unanswered questions to be rubber stamped and thrown onto the backs of the voters. For years they have had time to develop a plan, but instead have failed the public and are in the process of doing so again, while trying to make the taxpayer feel like it is his and her fault.

Lastly, as demonstrated in the vote to remove Ms. Toth, there are board members who have conflicts of interest and are unable to ethically vote on the most essential BOE matters like the hiring or firing of a superintendent, or the approval of a teachers union contract. How can someone serve on the BOE and not be able to participate on these critical matters?

Before they do any more harm to the students, teachers and taxpayers, the only honorable thing this board can do is resign immediately and allow able residents to step in and serve the public.
