Donald L. Tripp of Lambertville
How wonderful a statement New Jersey has made especially at this time of the year in renouncing the death penalty.
Congratulations to the state Senate, the state Assembly and to Gov. Corzine.
My only regret is not one of the legislative members from District 23 (Lambertville) was able to see the wisdom of this action, not to mention the cost savings from eliminating the death penalty.
Numerous studies and reports conclude the cost of maintaining inmates on death row far exceeds the cost of their lifetime incarceration.
In recognition of New Jersey’s repeal of the death penalty, the coliseum in Rome, Italy, will be illuminated for 24 hours.
Hopefully, Sen. Lance, Assemblywoman Karrow and Assemblyman Doherty will see the light!
