EAST WINDSOR James V. Johnson, 82, died Saturday at the Compassionate Care Hospice of St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
Born in Pittstown , he had lived in East Windsor for many years.
Mr. Johnson was a high school maintenance man for the East Windsor Regional School District for nine years, retiring in 1979. He previously had worked for Mettler Instruments in East Windsor for more than 14 years.
He was a member of the Autumn Club, a former member of the VFW Post 5700, East Windsor, and a member of the Hightstown TP8 National Campers and Hikers Association. Mr. Johnson was a Boy Scout leader with Troop 5700 for many years and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Hightstown for more than 60 years. He served as a deacon for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents Prall U. and Lottie (nee Rittenhouse) Johnson, son James Wayne Johnson, brothers Prall U. and Simeon Johnson, and sisters Mildred Freihaut, Florence Lines, Eleanor Sigle and Elizabeth Coleman, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Violet (nee Mundras) of East Windsor; daughter Debra Daniels of Hightstown; granddaughter and grandson Jamie L. Daniels-Johnson and Brian G. Daniels; sisters Charlotte Farr and Margaret Fields; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation was private with a private burial in the family plot in Cedar Hills Cemetery in Hightstown. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at the First Baptist Church of Hightstown, Main Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
