Police say alcohol involved in Friday’s fatality

A Somerset woman was charged Monday in connection with last week’s traffic death of an 18-year-old Dayton woman.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Nicholas Sewitch said Kimberly Green, 32, of Norwich Place, Somerset, was drunk when she ran a red light on Route 1 at Black Horse Lane in her 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante and collided with a 2007 Honda Civic carrying three South Brunswick women on Friday at about 3:30 a.m. Ms. Green was traveling north at an excessive rate of speed and struck the Civic, which was crossing Route 1 onto Black Horse Lane, on the passenger side, Mr. Sewitch said.
The crash killed Kylie Pinheiro, of Dayton, and injured her two cousins, Heather Pinheiro, 20, and Melissa Pinheiro, 21. Heather Pinheiro was the driver and Kylie Pinheiro was a front-seat passenger.
The survivors were in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Mr. Sewitch said.
Ms. Green has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the accident. Mr. Sewitch said she tested at .159 blood-alcohol level, nearly twice the legal limit. She could face up to 30 years in prison on the manslaughter charge and 10 years each on the assault charges, if convicted, Mr. Sewitch said.
Ms. Green had been treated at the scene by paramedics and released. She was arrested at her lawyer’s office in New Brunswick, where she complained of pain related to injuries from the accident. She was taken to a local hospital and is in police custody. Mr. Sewitch said he was unsure which hospital she was taken to.
She is being held on $200,000 bail and will be transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center when she is released from the hospital.
