Mr. Evans, 86, of Silvermead, Freehold Township, died Dec. 22, 2007, at The Manor Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City and raised in Massachusetts, he had lived in Freehold Borough and Howell before moving to Silvermead in 1996.Mr. Evans was a graduate of Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine. He was a supervisor of patient accounts at Marlboro State Psychiatric Hospital for 28 years. He retired in 1984 from the Central Office in Trenton as a coordinating supervisor of other various state hospitals after five years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and participated in the invasion of Sicily and Anzio. He also took part in campaigns in Casablanca, Morocco, Algeria, Oran, Africa, Tunsia, France and Germany. Mr. Evans was a former commander of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold, as well as a quartermaster and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 374, Freehold. He was predeceased by a son, RobertM. Evans, inMay 2000. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Joan F. Dailey Evans; three daughters; a stepdaughter, Karen Drum of Pennsylvania; a daughter-inlaw; a brother, John Kellaher of Concord,Mass.; two grandchildren; a step-grandson; and a great-grandson. A private graveside memorial service was held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Freehold Township. Clayton & Mc- Girr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
