After reading the letter from Art Sholty, I could not contain myself and just had to write a rebuttal.
How stupid does he think the people of Brick are? Although I mostly agree with him as far as the rules go for civil service and promotions, I take offense to the fact that he wants us to believe the mayor had no influence. Being a person who’s had a lot of family in Shore-area governments, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know how the inner workings of town governments work. And Mr. Sholty is naive enough to try and make us believe otherwise.
The mayor made the right decision in excusing himself, but the people making the decision knew what he wanted. Imagine what it would have been like around work if they went in another direction.
We have the greatest police department in New Jersey. This is the safest city in the United States. As far as I’m concerned, they all qualify for chief. But the rules say otherwise, and I’m sure the best man has gotten the job, regardless if he’s the mayor’s son-in-law. I just hope he keeps up the good work and continues to make Brick the safest city in the U.S.
As for Mr. Sholty, please write something that’s worth reading, and please don’t insult our intelligence.
Michael G. Crelin Sr.
