Polar plunge in Long Branch to benefit Camp Sunshine

Camp Sunshine is scheduled to host its second annual A.J.’s New Jersey Polar Plunge at Avenue Beach in Long Branch on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.

Participants, many in costumes, will plunge into the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Last year’s event raised more than $30,000 and this year the camp hopes to raise more than $50,000, according to Michael Smith, Camp Sunshine’s director of special events.

Participants must raise a minimum of $100 in pledges and “plungers” raising $100 or more will receive a commemorative T-shirt. For more information, call (207) 655-3800 or visit www.campsunshine. org.
