Teens accused of totaling parked car, damaging others

MILLTOWN – Police arrested four teenagers earlier this week in connection with vandalism to vehicles parked on and around Ackerman Avenue.

Kyle White, 18, along with three juvenile males, two of them age 17 and the other one 15, were each charged with two counts of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle and obstruction to law enforcement. One of the 17-year-old juveniles was also charged with burglary and theft, after an Apple iPod missing from one of the cars was found at his home, according to police.

Police were dispatched to Ackerman Avenue Sunday at 2:27 a.m. when residents noticed damage to a vehicle. A 2002 Dodge Neon had all four of its tires slashed, and all of its windows smashed. The iPod, valued at $399, had been stolen from inside the car. The total damage to the vehicle was estimated at more than $7,000, and the owner’s auto insurance company later deemed the car a total loss.

Two other vehicles in the area, a 2007 Toyota Camry and a 2007 BMW 328, also had their windows smashed by large rocks. Damage to those vehicles was estimated at $750 each, according to information provided by Milltown Police Lt. Douglas Cole.

White was arrested Monday and released on $10,000 bail. The three juveniles, arrested Tuesday, were taken to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick, pending a hearing in state Superior Court. It was not clear why the teens were charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and the officers in charge could not immediately be reached for comment yesterday.
