The West Windsor Arts Council is gearing up to turn the Princeton Junction firehouse into a center for the arts — and RMJM Hillier is helping to kick off their capital campaign with an event that will engage the entire community.
The excitement begins this week with the “Home is Where the Art is” art exhibit at RMJM Hillier headquarters, 500 Alexander Park, West Windsor. Running through Feb. 23, artwork from 30 artists working in media from photography to ceramics, assemblage, bronze, and beyond, will be on sale. The exhibit will be open from Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — and admission is free.
Then, on Saturday, Feb. 23, come out to RMJM Hillier for the “Cabin Fever Cabaret,” an evening of sultry music, food coordinated by the West Windsor Farmers’ Market, fine wines, and live entertainment, as well as a silent auction. From 6:30 to 10 p.m., attendees will have the chance to bid on artwork and other silent auction items, as well as purchase the exhibited artwork, and raise money for the arts council’s new home in the firehouse.
”It is exciting to have our architectural atrium become a gallery for fine art for a few weeks. We hope many will tour the exhibit during the days ahead and even enjoy a cup of freshly brewed complimentary coffee with us,” said architect J. Robert Hillier, founder of Hillier Architecture and honorary chairman of the event.
”What we really want to see is a crowd here for ‘Cabin Fever Cabaret’! It’s an honor for us to host this wonderful effort of the West Windsor Arts Council to create their new home.”
”Cabin Fever Cabaret” highlights will include Grammy-nominated composer Beth Ertz, who will play cabaret music, sung by noted cabaret artist Carol Selick. Renaissance woman Sally Stang will perform an original skit, “The Arts Counselor,” and Mindy Turin will sing the song she composed just for the “Home is Where the Art is” theme. There will be a presentation on the status of the historic Princeton Junction firehouse as arts center.
Food will be prepared by CookAppeal and include mushrooms à la Grecque, goat cheese and sun-dried tomato toasts, asparagus frittata, gravlax, bacon-wrapped scallops, Greek seasoned chicken, and a dessert buffet including Cabin Fever cookies.
Best of all, there will be the chance to bid on artwork and other silent auction items, as well as purchase the exhibited artwork, and raise money for the arts council’s new home in the firehouse.
Artwork and silent auction items can be previewed beginning Sunday at www.westwindsorarts.org.
Major sponsors for the event are RMJM Hillier, Intercap Holdings and PNC Bank.
Cabaret tickets cost $50, $75 and $100. The two highest price categories include a one-year membership in the arts council’s Circle of Friends. Already a member? A one-year extension will be added to your membership.
Please note that no paper tickets will be issued; instead, you would receive confirmation by e-mail or phone.
