A Princeton-area man was found dead in Cumberland County on Sunday night during a search for three hunters who had been reported missing, the State Police said Monday.
The man was identified by police as Jan Toryfter, 45, of the 4000 block of Province Line Road, which is near Carson Road in Lawrence Township.
Mr. Toryfter was one of the three men reported missing to State Police Sunday after they failed to return on Saturday night, when they were due home from a hunting trip in Fairfield Township, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones.
The cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner, he said.
Sgt. Jones said Monday afternoon that the State Police Marine Bureau is continuing to lead the search effort for the other two men, Jozef Karamuz, 69, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., and Zdzislaw Piorkowski, 59, of Philadelphia.
Mr. Toryfter was found after 10:15 p.m. Sunday by State Police using a helicopter with an infrared camera near the small boat that the men had been using, Sgt. Jones said.
The boat was overturned on a solid portion of the marsh, and personnel effects, including a shotgun and hunting equipment, were found underneath, he said.
The three men left a truck and a boat trailer in Fairfield on Husted Landing Road at a boat ramp launch location, Sgt. Jones said.
They were reported missing to the State Police before noon on Monday, but may have been reported missing to municipal authorities earlier, Sgt. Jones said.
