Princeton Township
A motorist had to be taken to the hospital after he lost control of his car, which was then struck by another vehicle during the icy weather at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The crash occurred on Route 206 approximately 500 feet south of Edgerstoune Road when Bryan A. Alpizar, 19, of Trenton apparently lost control of his 1992 Honda Accord due to icy road conditions and slid sideways into the northbound lane into the path of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Ronald Little, 61, of Toms River, police said.
Mr. Little was unable to make any evasive maneuver and his Cherokee struck the right side of the Accord, police said. The two vehicles came to rest along the edge of the northbound lane, with the front of the Cherokee resting on the top of the Accord. Mr. Alpizar sustained injuries to his right shoulder and torso and was extricated from the vehicle by the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad with assistance from the Princeton Fire Department.
He was transported to Capital Health System’s Fuld Campus, where he was treated and released. Mr. Little and his passenger sustained minor injuries and they were not in need of hospitalization. The accident is under investigation, police said.
Montgomery
An overturned dump truck on the Route 206 bridge over the railroad track in Belle Mead caused police to close Route 206 in both directions at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
Responding officers found that the driver, Wiley D. Taylor, 42, of Pennsauken had climbed out of the cab, but was unable to get to the ground. Mr. Taylor was complaining of neck and back pain. Montgomery Emergency Medical Services, with the assistance of the Montgomery Fire Department No. 1, lowered Mr. Taylor to the ground using a ladder and he was transported to Somerset Medical Center. The truck, owned by Camden Iron and Metal Co. of Camden, was hauling a load of scrap metal south on Route 206 from a location in Hillsborough. The truck overturned at the top of the bridge, spilling part of its load onto the road and the bridge walkway. The accident is under investigation by the Montgomery Township Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Andrew Perry at 908-874-3333. The New Jersey Department of Transportation Traffic Diversion Team responded to assist with the detour, which was expected to last several hours.
Icy road conditions led to an overturned dump truck on Research Road at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday. Norman Lamy, 63, of Hamilton was driving north approaching a construction site at the end of Research Road when his truck began sliding on the snow covered road surface and then encountered a gravel section of the road. This caused the truck to flip onto its side, police said. Mr. Lamy was able to climb out of truck, but reported neck and back pain. Montgomery Emergency Medical Services transported him to University Medical Center at Princeton. No summonses were issued. The truck was towed from the scene.
A single car crash occurred on Burnt Hill Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The driver, Eileen Harris Pannel, 52, of Princeton was driving south when her car slid off the road and struck a fire hydrant. No injuries were reported and no summonses were issued. The car was towed from the accident scene.
A single car crash occurred on Spring Hill Road at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The driver, Nahuel Banos, 26, of New York City was driving south on Spring Hill Road when the car slid off the roadway and struck a tree. No injuries were reported and no summonses were issued. The car was towed away.
A vehicle driven by Philip Relmuto, 57, of Montgomery was struck in the rear while he was attempting to make a left turn from Route 518 westbound onto Province Line Road at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Arthur Bernard, 58, of Lambertville was also driving west on Route 518 when he observed Mr. Relmuto making the turn, according to the report.. Mr. Bernard said he could not stop his vehicle on the snow-covered road and his vehicle struck Mr. Relmuto’s vehicle.
A one-vehicle crash that resulted in the vehicle involved overturning onto its side on Sunset Road occurred at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday. The driver, Abelardo Termulo Jr., 42, of Montgomery was westbound on Sunset Road when he lost control of his vehicle on the slick roadway and it began sliding into a ditch. Mr. Termulo then over-corrected, crossed the road and struck the opposite ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side, police said. Mr. Termulo extricated himself from the vehicle and complained of neck pain. He was evaluated by Montgomery Emergency Medical Services and refused further medical attention. Mr. Termulo was issued a summons for careless driving.
West Windsor
A Willingboro man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he fell asleep behind the wheel while driving on southbound Route 1 early Wednesday, police said. Police said a car driven by Jason R. Rodriguez, 29, was seen stopped in a travel lane on Route 1 near Fisher Place at 2:55 a.m. He was also charged him with reckless driving, delaying traffic and refusing to submit to a breath test.
Elizabeth G. Brune, 20, of Glenwood was charged with shoplifting after she tried to steal $212 in merchandise from the Kohl’s department store in the Nassau Park shopping center about 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, police reported. She placed jewelry, cosmetics and T-shirts in a bag and tried to walk out of the store, police said.
Plainsboro
Someone stole a purse from a West Windsor resident who was at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North between 11:35 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. Monday. Taken was the purse, a wallet, and cosmetics, with a total value of $475. The case is under investigation.
