BREAKING NEWS: Second man charged in connection with Giordano murder

TRENTON — A second man has been charged in connection with the murder of Amy Giordano of Hightstown.
Mercer County Prosecutor Joe Bocchini Jr. announced Friday afternoon that a complaint had been signed charging John A. Russo Jr., 43, of Staten Island, N.Y., with one count of fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, Mr. Bocchini said in a press release that no information on the specific alleged actions of Mr. Russo would be released at this time.
The charge came one day after Rosario DiGirolamo of Millstone was charged with murdering Ms. Giordano, his former mistress and mother of their child, on June 7 in Hightstown. He was taken into custody Thursday at his parents’ home in Staten Island.
Ms. Giordano was last seen in June; her body has not been found.
Mr. DiGirolamo previously pleaded guilty to abandoning the couple’s baby boy, Michael, outside a Delaware hospital two days after Ms. Giordano disappeared. He was sentenced to probation in Delaware.
Mr. Bocchini said Friday afternoon that Mr. Russo has been advised of the charge against him but had not been formally served with the complaint. Detectives involved with the investigation were in contact with Mr. Russo on Friday morning and expect to formally serve him in the next few days, according to Mr. Bocchini’s press release.
The criminal complaint against him was signed Thursday, and bail was set in the amount of $5,000. If convicted, Mr. Russo faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.
