MONROE — Joseph B. McDonald died Thursday at Merwick Rehab Hospital & Nursing Care. He was 90.
Born in Scranton, Pa., he resided in South Brunswick for 15 years, moving to Stroudsburg, Pa. before moving to Monroe in 2001.
He retired in 1982 from the U.S. Postal Service with over 25 years of service as a clerk and data collection supervisor.
A World War II Army veteran, he served in the 710 Battalion, 8th Armored Division and received two Purple Hearts while serving in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church and Nativity of Our Lord Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Emerald Society, and Knights of Columbus, completing his 4th degree.
Son of the late John and Bridget McGowan McDonald, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne F. Morio McDonald, daughters and sons-in-law Brigette and Fred Herrmann, Colleen and Bob Kacerosky; and grandchildren Frederick, Amanda, Rob, Dan and Sean.
The funeral will be held 8:45 a.m. Thursday at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, South Brunswick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, 45 Henderson Road, South Brunswick.
Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
