Parenting workshop
Tuesday, April 1 — Dr. Cathy Reimer, psychologist, will offer a free parenting workshop at 7:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church on Main Street in Columbus. She will speak with parents on how to handle children’s behavior, develop positive strategies and survive parenting.

concert series
Saturday, April 5 — The “Living Room” live concert series will take place on various days at The Record Collector, 358 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown City.
Jana Peri will appear on Saturday, April 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., The Catholic Girls will play from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and Todd Ellis from Smart Remarks will play from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 16.

Volunteer cleanup
Saturday, April 5 — The Bordentown Township Environmental Commission will host its fourth annual Environmental Commission Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon. The area selected for the cleanup is the roadside along Stanton Avenue off Route 206. Volunteers should assemble at the end of Stanton Avenue at 9 a.m.
Prior to the cleanup, volunteers will receive light refreshments and beverages as well as safety instructions and a brief area environmental overview. Gloves and trash bags will also be provided. Participants need not remain for the entire three hours.

Bordentown bluffs
Saturday, April 5 — The Plainsboro NJ Audubon Center and the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park will sponsor a nature excursion at 8 a.m. at the Spring Lake Parking Area, off Sewell Avenue in Bordentown.
Join N.J. Audubon naturalist Arlene Oley and the D&R Canal State Park naturalist for a morning of birding and exploration at the Trenton marsh and Bordentown bluffs. This site promises glimpses of Rusty Blackbirds, large concentrations of migrating waterfowl and numerous spring flowers. A 10-day pre-registration and advance payment of $7 for NJAS members, or $10 for nonmembers, will be required. The program will last about two hours.

Sunday, April 6 — A chicken barbecue will be held April 6 starting at noon at the Chesterfield Firehouse. Adults $12, children $6, takeouts are available.
Casino trip
Sunday, April 6 — The Knights of Columbus No. 570 will sponsor a bus trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City. A bus will leave St. Mary’s Church parking lot at 4:30 p.m for a four-hour stay. The cost is $20 per person and each attendee will receive $20 in cash.

Sunday, April 6 — The community Concert Association of Bordentown presents a concert of traditional folk music of Eastern Europe by Harmonia at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at Bordentown Regional Middle School, 50 Dunn’s Mill Road, Bordentown, and tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for students.

Second Wednesdays — The Bordentown Library holds the Adult Book Discussion program at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of the every month. No registration is required.
The next book will be “The Measure of a Man” by Sydney Poitier on April 9. In this nonfiction piece, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. On May 14, the book will be “The Secret Lives of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd, and on June 11 the book will be “Three Junes” by Julia Glass

Spaghetti dinner
Saturday, April 12 — An all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs sinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. April 12 at the Crosswicks Firehouse, New Street. Camp registration
Tuesday, April 15 — Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool will hold an open house to register for summer day camp at 9 a.m. at 280 Crosswicks Road, Bordentown. The summer program will offer weekly themes for children ages 3-5. Children must be 3 years old by Oct. 1, 2008, and fully potty trained.
Summer sessions will be available for five weeks starting Tuesday, July 1. Each session will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m., and will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The sessions are scheduled for July 1-3, July 8-10, July 15-17, July 22-24 and July 29-31. Space is very limited.

NBC luncheon
Northern Burlington County Marching Unit is holding a luncheon/gift auction on April 20 at Charley’s Other Brother. It is seeking donations of items from local residents and businesses for the auction and advertisements to be included in an ad book. Sight and Sound Trip
Saturday, July 26 — Shiloh Baptist Church of Bordentown is sponsoring a bus trip to the Sight and Sound Theatres to see the play, In the Beginning.

Interested in participating in group runs throughout beautiful northern Burlington County? A training group is now forming for various fall races. Whether you’re a beginner, building a base for marathons, preparing for a race of a shorter distance, or just want some company in your quest for fitness, join the group on Saturday and Sunday mornings as they explore the roads of Mansfield, Springfield, Chesterfield and any other fields they can find. Distances will vary, and all paces will be accommodated.

Cat volunteers needed
Bordentown City Cats, a cat rescue group in Bordentown, is looking for volunteers to feed, trap, provide transportation to and from vet appointments, or be available once a month for cleanup at the adoption center at an area PetSmart store.
In addition, the group is looking for caring people to foster friendly cats and kittens until they are ready to be put up for adoption.

Volunteers needed
The Mansfield Township Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers for a domestic violence response team. The team members will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence crisis.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, be willing to serve a minimum of four 12-hour shifts per month, and submit to background investigations, including fingerprinting. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, to be held over an eight-week period during evening and weekend hours is required and will be provided to successful applicants. An understanding of domestic violence issues is a plus, as is a bilingual capacity.
