MANALAPAN – Ryan Green and William Garcia have been selected by the members of the Manalapan Republican County Committee to be the Republican Party candidates for two seats on the Township Committee.
Green is a 20-year resident of Manalapan and is currently a member of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education. Green is seeking re-election to his seat on the school board in the April 15 school election.
If Green wins re-election to the school board and goes on to win a seat on the Township Committee in November he would be required to surrender his position on the school board.
Green is a school social worker with the Perth Amboy School District in Middlesex County.
Republican Municipal Chairman Stephen McEnery said of Green, “He brings a positive attitude of working together across party lines to develop consensus. As a member of the school board he has worked closely with Democrats and Republicans to accomplish much. As a school board member he is already working with the township and with the Western Monmouth Utilities Authority on a cost-sharing energy conservation project.”
According to McEnery, Garcia is a relative newcomer to Manalapan, having moved to the township with his wife and three children two years ago. McEnery said Garcia has a degree in finance and is a financial professional.
Of Garcia, McEnery said, “He feels that his background will be helpful in working with financial issues on the Township Committee. As a project leader at work, his ability to bring people together to accomplish stated goals will be a plus in working through the complex issues in Manalapan.
“I feel the two new faces, with their diverse backgrounds and educational experience, can raise the bar in Manalapan’s government. We had four good candidates who were vying for the position. The county committee members decided that these two gentlemen (Green and Garcia) are well suited to bring about positive change in Manalapan.”
The other candidates who sought the Republican Party nomination were Kalman “Butch” Budai and Steve Johnson.
