MANALAPAN – Donald Holland has been chosen to run with Michelle Roth on the Democratic Party line for two Township Committee seats that will be up for grabs this year.
Roth was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the committee in 2004. She was elected to a three-year term in November in 2005 and served as deputy mayor in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 she was selected to serve as mayor.
Under Manalapan’s form of government residents do not directly elect a mayor. The members of the committee select a member of the governing body to serve as mayor for a one-year term.
Roth and her husband, Larry, own and operate an investor relations company.
Holland, who is retired, holds a New Jersey master plumber’s license and is a former construction superintendent and project manager in the field of commercial plumbing, air conditioning and heating.
Holland and his wife, Wanda, own and operate a small farm on Dey Grove Road where they have lived for 33 years.
Holland has been the chairman of Manalapan’s Agricultural Advisory Committee for the last six-and-a-half years. He said he is proud that during that time almost 1,000 acres ofManalapan’s farmland have been preserved from development, including his farm, Misty Meadow.
Holland has been a member of the township’s finance committee, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, chairman of the Planning Board, member of the Manalapan Environmental Commission, chairman of the Manalapan Municipal Agricultural Advisory Committee and he has served as recording secretary for the Monmouth County Board of Agriculture.
Manalapan Democratic Municipal Chairman Gerard Ward said Roth and Holland bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.
“These are two fine, immensely capable people and we look forward to the campaign and their election in November,” Ward said.
